Speaking of Downed Corn

A friend of mine was looking down from a hill onto a corn field which had what appeared to be a bunch of small "crop circles" in it.
Turns out, they were caused by a black bear (or bears).
Apparently, they go into the corn field, lie down, reach out and pull the stalks in towards themselves while "harvesting" the ears causing a circle of downed corn.
I don't ever recall hearing of that in the past. The black bear population around here has grown a great deal in the past 20 years or so.

Typical of bears. The sit and pull in as much as they can
reach. They will have to watch for dens too as the dig those
and they are big enough to drop a combine tire in. I've had
both in my fields in the past.

Just curious, but how many years has it
been since bear hunting was allowed in
your area? I would guess there might be
some correlation between the increase in
population and hunting restrictions.

There has been a bear season in my neck of the woods for at least 20 years. Despite the legal hunting, the population continues to grow. We see lots of them on our game cams and they pilfer our bird feeders regularly but we see darned few while in the woods hunting. LOL

Yes, they pull it to them and eat it until it makes them sick then they just keep eating more.

Must be strange deer to walk around corn the deer here just run through it. Doesn't bother them how much they knock down. Turkeys are just as bad. I think both are worse than the coons.
