I used UHMW as shaft bearings / bushings for our water lift pumps. It is really just a steady for the 2” shafts just above the impellers. The shafts only turn 250-300 rpm and they are oversized so the water flows through them to lubricator and keep cool.

Also uses it as runners for the elevator chains in out cranberry conveyers. Basically a wear part to separate the steel chain from the aluminum conveyer body.

Material is easily cut with table saw, and machined, bored, slotted etc.
The white stuff will break down in sunlight. I think the black is UV stable and of course more expensive.

I’ve used thin sheets also for the steep sides of hoppers to keep manure and compost from sticking to the walls and tunnelling over the conveyer flights.

What are you planning on using it for? It’s expensive stuff.
Grant.

The guy i got this New Holland baler from made some strippers for the pickup and i thought about trying do the same

Want to try making pickup bands or strippers for my baler the guy i got it from used the white i thought id try the black and a bit thicker its 6$ a foot but that’s still 60$ cheaper then oem

When I was welding I used it a lot for wear resistance. I worked for a factory that made grain handling equipment and when there was severe wear they used uhmw. As said it machines easily, they used it to make the grain gates by bolting a 1/2 thick piece to the gate frame with a slot milled in it for the gate to slide in. It has little structural integrity so it will need to be bolted to something. And as said it deteriorates in sun.

That is some tuff stuff. I run thousands of pounds of polypropylene a year in my machines but this is a different animal. It is an extruded material rather than what I use. I would say it will do what you need.

Sorry about the red markup. This is another use of the UHMW 1/4” x 5-1/2” bands on the cranberry pruner. I used to use rolled aluminum but it can link and bend. The plastic retains the shape.

Im going to order some and try it . The stuff the guy before me is still working but its the white kind and its getting brirtle

If you want some to experiment with, cut up a blue or white 55 gallon drum. Or get a cutting board big enough.
The drums are polyethylene but close enough for experimenting.

Yes after 5 yrs or so it’s usually time to change them. Black may last longer.
It’s easy stuff to work with.
