Anybody race pigeons?

My dad used to get the young ones from the nest,,just before they flew out,,,squabs? Ithink?He liked them,,I was pretty young,,I dont remember how they tasted,,but did eat them!
 
In days gone by, the pigeons would nest on the 2" x 8" double plate that the rafters sat on in our main barn. When the layers of hay bales got high enough we could reach the pigeon's nests. We would call the cats and toss the featherless baby pigeons down to the cats. The cats were happy to win that race every time
 
I have a friend who use to. Entered a lot of competitions around the country. Had 400 birds at one time, then got out of it and only keeps 10 or 15 at a time now, and sells them too. Made some good money in those years.
 
I guess a guy can make quite a bit of money racing these things . The guy who has these said a pigeon sold somewhere for over a million dollars
