Looks good Grandpa. Do you guys ever use bale hooks? We use them here, they are quicker than getting your fingers under the strings but with two working close together you need to be careful. It is amazing with a flick of the wrist how you can grab a bale and move it quickly.

Just wondering why you don't hook a wagon behind the baler and save the extra trip around the field ?

Time constraints. We could free drop 10 bales per minute with a New Holland 77 Hayliner. No way could two men stand on a wagon going that fast even if the field was as smooth as a billiard table, which none were. We did it both ways, though. Just depended on how much hay was ready to bale. Usually lots.

I will second a hook very handy, but as noted exercise caution if 2 people close together.
Spent lots of time on a 16 ft rack alone and that hook sure saves time.
Also if you use the hook always exercise caution when you lay it down or it may find a tire or a foot or a someone's backside.
One time I dropped the hook on the rack and jumped down to adjust tension, couple jiggles of the wagon and it was through the crack and in the tire (father not happy !!!)

Looks like its getting the job done for you that is the main thing. You need to make a road trip I have a NH bale loader that is similar but has a conveyor
that the bales run up make you a real good deal on it.You could also get the Ford 101 plow I have same vintage as your tractors real good condition.

That's the only way we handled bales also. Hooking one hook in the handle of the other to pull the last few bales to the top of a load was fun. Stan

Nice video.....I noticed the boys don't use a hay hook. How many out there grew up handling small bales with a hook? I have my grandpas that he gave me over 60 yrs. ago. After haying season it would look like it was chromed.

All of our hay hooks stayed hanging in the shed. The whole neighborhood wore gloves and picked them up by the strings. We had one young neighbor girl in her teens that could through an old full square about 30 feet with one hand. (;>))
