Opinions please JD 1520

I'm looking at a JD 1520 diesel tractor. Anything that I should be cautious about beside the normal issues with any tractor? This one is in real good shape with new tires, brakes, and fresh service of hydraulic system. Also has a loader.

That's good to hear. I'm going to look at it Thursday. Seems like it is in exceptional shape. Previously owned by a JD mechanic.

A close friend has had one for many years, his is gas. As a
loader tractor and for some time his only tractor it has been
used hard and did not always get much TLC. Well, it caught
up with him. Now after a water pump, carburetor rebuild,
alternator, and steering linkage rebuild it runs like a new
tractor. Saw it run today unloading large balage round bales.
Ran fabulous. Good Tractor. Paul

Very good little tractors. Make sure the hyd oil you use meets JD 20C specs or use the Deere hyguard. Make sure the boots around the gearshift lever are good to keep moisture out of the trans. I do not care for the hyd hi-low (rabbit and turtle) if it has it. Works great but if they ever need repair they cost lots of money to fix. It was an option that many do not have. The 1520 was made in two types the HU and RU. About the same just the HU has bigger rear tires and longer front spindles to level it out. I have a 1520 gas HU right now. Tom

Test the coolant for the corrosion inhibitor strength . If the inhibitor has dissipated . The wet sleeve engine is more prone to cavitate pin holes through the liners .
