OT: TV Westerns

How many of you are fans of Gunsmoke, The Rifleman or The Life And Legend Of Wyatt Earp? Ever since the doc started cutting on my spine I find myself getting off my feet and on ice more often. Every so often the plots are corney but I appreciate clean adult TV. I would like watch Gunsmoke from Matt Gets It Till The Sharecroppers but I don't quite enough time to watch 19 years of a series.

I have all the Gunsmokes saved that MeTV has aired. They is a few episodes they say are lost. I asked. I started saving Wyatt Earp but was too late. They only took the series 1.25 times thru. I do have many of the standard western movies saved that Grit has aired. Almost have a 3T hard drive filled.

That's usually my go to when I start scanning the TV stations.

I can only take so much Fox News, then it's see if American Pickers reruns are on, or Forged In Fire reruns, Dirty Jobs reruns...

"They" took away Live PD, which was somewhat entertaining.

I can not take ANY of the mainstream "entertainment" any more. All aimed at the mentality of a fruit fly!

I like all of those on TV, but I'm partial to the radio broadcasts of:

Gunsmoke with William Conrad as Matt

The Six Shooter with Jimmy Stewart

and Tales of the Texas Rangers with Joel McCrae

I have all the episodes (free download) on a USB drive. Free downloads are available from oldtimesradiodownloads.com

Larry

PS there are many other shows to download as well, the above are my favorites.

If it wasn't for ME TV we wouldnt watch TV. The only thing I don't like is the ads. The are all for things I will never buy or won't buy from the advertizing companies.

If anyone likes westerns then you should make a trip to Oklahoma City to the " Western Heritage and Cowboy Museum". I have been there several
times and it brings me back to the days when I was a kid and watched " The Rebal", Cheyenne, Sugarfoot, The Guns of Will Sonnet, Have Gun
Will Travel, Rifleman and the great old westerns. Really a beautiful place. PS, leave your wife at home, it will be much more enjoyable

Tony in SD-Same here,95% of the little TV we watch is METV.I really like the old westerns, but since they air in the afternoon,It is a very rare occasion I am free to watch them.It is great to watch old shows in general, until the commercials come on,and advertise modern trash TV.The worst part of it is that people watch that junk.

Rock

Grit may be my favorite channels. I get so tired of modem TV. Just trash. The older weekly shows are my favorite. Might have violence but that was
sort of true for that time in history. Don't forget the Lone Ranger and Roy Rogers shows. I never get tired of all the shows mentioned. Wingnut

I'm in for most westerns Though I like the 20 mule team borax episodes. Liked the real background story to them. Especially like the one about a mans home is his castle. Don't care so much for Wagon Train and some of the PC nonviolent or can't hit a bull in the as with a scoop shovel accuracy.

More guys here like me than I thought. METV and Grit are good stations. I have been watching Wyatt Earp and The Rifleman on Amazon Prime. We had Roku for over a year before I realized what Amazon Prime TV had to offer. There you can see all of the show. I have watched the above start to finish a few times on TV but didn't realize what those missing seconds cut out. When I see all of it on Prime it is like watching a new episode.

McCain out shots himself sometimes and some shows are worse. Some of the shoot out scenes make you wonder what the point of the Gatling Gun was.

The rifleman is the reason I own so may
lever guns! Does anyone remember " How the
West was won with James Arness? Another
one that can out when I was a kid was Guns
of Paradise with Lee Horsley.

I enjoy an occasional episode of about any old Western - but my husband will binge watch sometimes... kinda makes me wanna toss a rock through the TV. LOL

I frequently like to turn the TV OFF... but some people in this house like to watch it endlessly (and at a high volume),if they are in the house. :(
