Interesting article from 1984

They can all be dangerous if we put ourselves in harm's way like that. I know of at least two farmers caught like that years ago in a round baler. One lost his arms. The other lost his life. I don't know the make or model of baler. I think about that any time I am near my baler and it is running.
 
My father was very safety concious. He always reminded me to NOT reach into any running machine. Even
when I shut the combine engine off to unplug it, I did not like sticking my hands inside. Hand cranked
Ford combine engine was always hard to start hot, but I did it.
I knew of one man who lost his left forearm in a corn picker and I had a jobsetter at GM who got his
fingers caught in the husking rolls of a New Idea corn picker. He did not lose the fingers, the tractor
stalled and he was there about an hour before his brother-in-law found him.
