(quoted from post at 04:02:59 11/10/20) Good idea on the stud. That rear bolt was a pain in the rectum. Another trick that may help you out in the future is to use a good appropriate size magnetic pick up tool to start the nut. It works well for small screws and bolts to.
(quoted from post at 06:22:56 11/10/20) I found a chevy distributor wrench worked.
(quoted from post at 06:29:03 11/10/20)My 2140 has that stud in place for the hard to reach side of the starter and I believe it is original equipment. I think I am going to have to follow the same idea as my strter is still not working as it should. Needed the battery booster and a shot of ether even a few days ago when the temp was around the freezing point. I know the old 730 Case and Super 90 Massey would have started without that much trouble.
(quoted from post at 08:57:07 11/10/20) Who ever designed these starters with a bolt that is impossible to get to needs shot this one isn t that bad
(quoted from post at 08:48:24 11/10/20) Parts catalog lists three 1 1/8 cap screws
(quoted from post at 23:35:27 11/09/20) Came today got it put on tonight 4020 starts better than it has since i switched it to 12 volts

Starter drive is broken on the old new starter
(quoted from post at 20:18:59 11/10/20) I just shake my head at some of the low prices quoted on new starters here on the forum. I looked up one for my 2140 on Amazon. AR70436. Its cheap enough at $140 but then there is $122 shipping charges. I'll keep looking locally.
(quoted from post at 17:33:00 11/10/20) That does not look like my 2140 starter. Numbers don't match up to any of my searches. I found one listed at A&I matching the original JD number. Original style Bosch starter at $349 before shipping. Have not checked with JD yet.
I'll concentrate on the starter before doing anything about a destroker. I know the starter is bad.
