I looked in my 1973 book, but i see it only goes up to 3500, maybe the ring gear size chart will help?

I’d guess about 3 looking at it . But I guess we’ll just see how much it takes to fill . What’s the recommendation for viscosity

I bought a cabinet at an auction earlier this year that had several manuals. Mostly 60s and early 70s but the majority of them are Ford books.

If it's a 20,000 axle will be about 3 gallons. I would use synthetic for the cold weather, it will lubricate better and run easier. If you pull the axles to drain then you need to jack one side up then the other to get the oil into the bearings.

You will be happier with a 75-90 synthetic. I have run both in trucks over the years and the synthetic will move much more freely in cold weather. It will also go 250,000 miles between changes easily. I used to change the rearend and transmission oils every 250,000 with new synthetic shifted better cold and warm.

A GUESS at around 3-4 gallons. I like the 75w-90 synthetic for the easier cold flow and smoother shifting (in the transmission too)
My 2 cents...
