Looking at new 1/2 ton trucks.. open to all 3.I like the look of the Dodge..no offense to Dodge owners but was the tranny issue ever resolved.

On my third Dodge or Ram as they are called now. All 1/2 ton with the 5.7 Hemi. Had an 05 with 140,000 miles, a 2013 with 96,000 miles, and now a 2019 with 35,000. No problems with any of them. Mostly just routine maintenance.

To be honest it doesn't seem like any companies fixed the big common problems.I know of people with up to 2012 dodges that had tranny problems on top of their loose front ends and being more prone to rust, and the newer hemis had lifter failure, but I believe that has been resolved.GM is known for terrible diesel engines, loose steering, not the best brakes, and in the late 90s/early 2000's they had rust something awful, even worse than dodge.Fords were always a lot tighter of a truck, and didn't get near as rusty with age as GM or Dodge, and obviously the newer f150s are aluminum,so rust is almost unheard of.The only problems ford ever really had,was the brakes needed replacing more than other trucks.I would rather replace the brakes every couple of years then deal with other major problems, but that's just me.

I would bet they all are about same quality now.

I am a Ford guy, but would not be afraid to buy any one of the others.

1998 ram 1500 242153.7 miles ALL work truck miles only thing replaced 1 muffler all u joints brake pads and two sets of rotters and i am not easy on it rust just starting and this thing lives in WI. 2017 ram 2500 just over 50000 mile 100% OEM

What do you have for local Dealership support?? here with in 30miles (15 either way.) there are 4 Gm dealers 1 ford and 1 dodge.. GM has a major share of this area...

Have owned Ford F-150s until one year ago. Purchased a 2020 Ram and is the nicest truck I have ever owned, rides better than any truck I have owned and in 23,000 miles have not had a single issue with it. Will get another when I trade.

Ford trucks have outsold all the others for decades (40+ years), Ram (Dodge) trucks are outselling Chevy, I think they have been doing this all year and some of last year, that has never happened before. Pic what you like, they all have good and bad but sales numbers indicate who's on top right? BTW, Ford outsells Chevy & GMC combined.

Q3 2020 pickup sales numbers

Ford 221,647
Ram 156,157
Chevy 147,484
GMC 67,812

I went with a Ford with the 5 liter V8 and have had zero trouble so far though I've only had it a year. Like Robert mentioned, dealer support is a big factor. Around here the support for both Chevy and Doge sucks so most of the trucks here are Fords. I'll probably buy another Dodge vehicle when they can prove to me that they can keep a front end intact in their vehicles. Always replacing steering parts and struts on those Dodges.

Never tell someone what vehicle to buy. Did that ONE time on a new tractor.

My story, when I was a young pup, maybe couple years working at the IH dealer, customer stands there and says. I can't see a mechanic driving a Plymouth. At least a Chevy or Ford. I said, very politely, well, I work on this stuff all day and don't feel like working on it all night on my own stuff.

Flip a coin, or roll the dice and pick one, chances are if you live in a area where they use a lot of road salt it’s not gonna last anyways.

I could give you about 100 reasons to buy a Toyota Tundra even though I've owned Ford stock for years.(Since it was $1 a share) But if you're only looking at Ford, Shoveitorleaveitlay, and Dodge, go with Ford.

Sister bought a new 2018 Tundra. It's done everything she's asked of it with no problems at all. She's pulled a 16 foot stock trailer to the local sale barn multiple times.

You probably won't go wrong with any of them. I was facing the same dilema 2 years ago until went to a Honda dealer. I now have a Honda Ridgeline and will look at them again for the next purchase. Superior ride, comfort, resale, etc.

MY choice would be CHEVY FORD and DODGE. I put dodge at the bottom because they rust out so fast. If your looking for horse power I think it would be FORD CHEVY DODGE. Every body thinks DODGE has the most horse power because it has a cummin engine but the last time I checked it was ford at the top in gas or diesel

I Love my Tundra, I have had Fords and drive brand new GM trucks at work. I wouldn't drive anything but a Tundra now. Its your money.

I just bought a new Ford last week. I got the 4 door with the 5.0. The dealers all push the ECo boosts, but I personally did not want one. I got the off road package with the skid plates, heavier suspension. bigger tires and towing package. It has a really good towing capacity for a half ton.I also wanted the front bucket seats, consol and floor shift. The 10 speed automatic is programable for towing, slick roads and economy modes. Due to all the electronics,I also got the 100,000 mile extended warrenty. So far I love it.

In 1998, I went to buy a Dodge. The dealership had an F150 with 5500 miles. It was a two seater and they were having trouble selling it. The salesperson asked me how long I intended to drive it and I said till the wheels fall off. He said, then you don't want the Dodge as it will be a rust bucket and you will hear every rattle at 100k miles. So, I went with the Ford. Today, that truck has 315,000 miles and still has the original muffler and tail pipe, starter, water pump, and a/c compressor. The engine and tranny have had nothing done but maintenance. It drives as tight as when new, though the body is beginning to wear through. It is no longer my main truck as I have a newer F150, but it gets driven weekly.

At end of the day, it is your preference. All are good and all have lemons.

I drove Ford for 38 years and just short of HALF a MILLION miles, Last one, '96 F-250 diesel I kept 24 years and 305,000 miles. Bought a new truck just shy of 3 years ago, a '18 RAM 1500 4WD, 5.7 Hemi, 8 -spd ZF auto trans, quad cab, short rear doors. Towing package. I don't drive it a lot, but I smile every time I get in it.
Towed a 6x12 enclosed U-Haul tandem trailer 5-6 months ago, 6000-7000#, 70-75 mph up and down hills in western WISCONSIN, held 75 up every hill, just dropped a couple gears, never over half throttle the whole 300 mile trip. Took it on a 1000 mile weekend 2 months ago. Bucked head wind & rain all the way west, 16 mpg @ 65-70mph. Drove 70-75 mph home I-90 east bound, drafted a nearly identical truck part way, 20+ mpg!
SON drove a '19 F150 with 3.5L Eco-Boost for a week while his '18 Mustang GT got a new manual trans, says it really ran hard. Wife's little 2.0L 4 cyl EcoBoost in her '15 Edge runs like a much bigger V-6 or V-8. Had a 3.5L non-turbo V-6 Edge for 4-5 months before the one we have now, Wife called it a gutless dog. It was. Unless you floored it, got the tach reading 6000 rpm, it wouldn't go.
Anyhow, 3 recalls on my RAM for silly things, rides nice, great brakes, never had a Ford pickup stop like this RAM. Only changes I'd want are to have a block heater and a locking rear axle. And I got used to an 8 ft bed with my F250, might want another regular cab long box.

Oh, Didn't GM switch to aluminum bodys a year or two ago? They stopped the stupid commercials dropping bricks and blocks into truck beds. So actual 3 brands of aluminum bodied trucks, Ford, Chevy, GMC. GMC's look O-K but some Chevies are HIDEOUSLY UGLY. Would not be caught dead in them.

Buy a Toyota Tundra and you won't need any dealer support. Although I have oil changes done there because it costs more to do them myself. Please bear in mind, we are talking about half-ton pickups in this thread.

I don't know anything about how the aluminum Fords are lasting. I do know that while aluminum doesn't rust it corrodes. And this can be just as bad as rust. And salt causes it to corrode.

JUst me but I will never buy another Ford as long as the local shop wants 2 grand to replace the spark plugs. The 2014 Ram is doing pretty good 174,000. on it so far. Mine has the 6 speed,I believe they only sell an 8 speed now. Toyotas set like a car with your feet straight out in front of you,I want to set with my feet down like a kitchen chair.tHe Chevy are like they were in the 1970s rusting before you even buy them. Anyone who thinks aluminum is rot proof has never been around class 7 and 8 trucks.

Have you ever tried replacing the plugs in a hemi ram?16 spark plugs, and half of them are under the dashboard, and takes about 5 or 6 hours to finish the job.

They have cheapened then all up so much I don't want any of them really. Can't do some of the things needed being done so will have to use one of them. Government motors makes good wagons though so probably not one of them. I guess will have to be either ford or dodge. Driving a 94 Dakota currently.

I hear you on the brakes. Mine is going to be needing new pads in the spring but its also going to be 5 years old next year already.

One guy I cut lawns for bought a Ram last year and had 9 recalls out of the gate. Not for me! The Hemi sounds neat but I don't need to hear a motor roar all the time. I've ridden in my friends' 2013 with the 5.7 many times and always thought it made a lot of noise on the road once you get it up to 60-70 mph.
