574 Gas, what to look for

Might possibly go look at a 574 with a loader next week, anything in partially I should for, loader has some plating and welds, But not concerned with that, after buying 300u,figured I better ask more questions, as we put the JPS kit on it so we could steer it ! Going to sell it if the 574 pans out, I've been working with Farmalls and International tractors all my life, just not around utilities that much. My dad had a 84 hydro, when he was farming, for a yard tractor, might get 15-20 hours a year, the tractor has about 3800 hrs. for 5500.00 a Bobcat dealer has it.

Distributors were always a problem. Family farm had one good tractor light on the rear without weights. Always steered good. Fuel tanks had some rust
finally got that cleared up.

I have one with a loader. Powerful and nimble with good steering, hydraulics, and brakes. The gas tanks got dirt between them and the fenders and rotted out. The parking brakes were often left on and brake material clogged the filter. If park brake still works that is a positive. The 200 engine was not sleeved so rebuilds are pricey Check oil pressure and blow by. As you know welds on a loader are normal, but take a close look at the axles for old wounds. The shifters got loose but are repairable, a good bargaining point. I would go for it again if the price was good.

Spindles are the weak point in the front end. We have changed several over the 10,000 or so hours and 40 some years. The diesel is a much better option than a gas to me.

I do not know where you are but here is a newer diesel 656 for thousand dollars less. Your deal
seems high to me but then I don,t know what part of the country you are in.

I appreciate everyone's input on this, Iam in so Mn. This tractor is at a dealership called LANO equipment located in Norwood/Young America, I believe they have at least 3 locations in Mn. The loader looks like crap, but Iam more concerned with the tractor itself, I'll try to ad a link to it, when I figure out how to do it.

JD-how do like the Jackson Power steering ? How much does it cost? Can
post some pictures of it? I have a 300u and have wondered about
putting a p/s kit on it, but would like some pictures and input from
some one who pulled the trigger on it. Thanks, Mark.

Made it a completely different tractor out of it,well worth the money to update it, but was expensive at over 1500. Has a cylinder attached to each steering rod and a combine type hydraulic motor for steering control. Go to their website and look at the parts involved, sorry no pics.
