8N Wheel and Center

I bought a new rear wheel rim and center and can't get the holes to line up.

I was able to get 5 of the 6 bolts in but the last one off by about 1/16 of an inch and I can't get it in without damaging the thread.

I rotated the center to get what appeared to the best alignment but... that's where I'm at.

Any thoughts?

The center won't bolt to the axle, or the center won't bolt to the wheel?

I would start buy contacting the seller, something is wrong.

You don't want to force the center on the axle, looking for trouble, it will stress the studs until something breaks.

You can cheat a little on that part.

Common for them to not line up perfectly.

Keep working them in, until you find the best combination. It may take some filing or grinding to get them in.

I didn't think of a little grinding.

I'll try taking the wheel off again as the next poster mentioned. But I'm pretty sure I got the best alignment. The first go was about 1/4 off, YIKES. So I thought okay, 1/16 I can work with...

But I suspect grinding is going to be my solution in the end. Yeah more tools :)

Thanks Guys!!!

Try having someone hold the center up a couple or so inches then drop all the bolts thru the center into the loops on the rim and let the center down slowly driving any tight ones with a hammer.Custom fit.(LOL)

That's a good idea. Less likely to damage the start thread if it's already in the loop. Once I get the nut on it doesn't matter much if the back threads are damaged a little.

I'll give that a try before I start grinding or filing... too much work.

Thanks again!!

The loops might have a bit of a twist or tilt to them when they were welded.
All, some or just one.
Maybe check with rim laying on flat surface and a couple of building squares.
Might find one that needs tweeking with a spud bar or similar.

If you file all the holes just a bit they might just all fall into place with less filing per hole and may be less work. Or just drill all the holes out a wee bit so there is just a bit more slop in each would allow the wheel and center to move just enough to go in ok. Remember if they get drove in they will be shot coming out later.
