Fuel cut off valve screen

I have a Massey Ferguson 240 with the perkins diesel. Im about to pull my fuel tank and clean everything out and reinstall. I noticed when I pulled out my fuel cut off valve it didnt have a screen on it like pictured. Is it ok just to clean everything back up and reinstall without a screen? I have primary and secondary fuel filters and I believe theres a screen on the injection pump.

(quoted from post at 13:53:24 03/10/21) Common for those to crumble with age.

Best to replace it if you have the time to wait to get it.

Thats my issue Im building a house right now and dont have the wait time. I can have the tank off and cleaned and everything back together with new filters within a day.

Ford 2000; 3 cyl. gas; 4/1 Trans....I looked in my gas tank some time back and that 'hat' filter on top of the cut off valve was laying in the bottom of the tank. Tractor would hardly start, then cut off after a few seconds. Replaced the cut off valve and filter and that solved the problem. The old valve was full of crap from the bottom of the tank and was preventing flow of fuel. Easy and cheap fix.

Strainers should be readily available. Dont refit the tap without one!
Make sure that its a tight fit on the tap. Over time surges in the fuel
will work the strainer loose. The present one is probably in the tank.
Keeping the tank as full as possible at all times will cut down surge.

With a freshly cleaned tank you will be better off with no filter than it has been with a filter for the last ten years. Put it back together and go.
