JD makes better fuel pumps

My 1980 JD 401B industrial lift pump stopped working. Within a few weeks, my 1990 MF 231 lift pump went bad. Both tractors with similar hours. So the JD pump lasted about 10 years longer. The JD pump diaphragm just starched out of shape. The MF diaphragm had a tear. Stan

They had better be better. I stopped at jd today to get a fuel pump for my mower with a Koehler engine, they had just sold their last one to an older gent who was still at the counter when I got there for $136.00. The same one online is from $12.00-22.00. Glad they were sold out. Ordered a rebuild kit from a case dealer for $22.00 and I get to keep my original pump.

I have heard it more than once that a JD running gear will trail well. Actually JD running gears were made by Hiniker. I own a JD and a Hiniker running gear and neither one trail very well. And yes they are made the same just different color. Green paint Don't make things better in my book!

many oem jd parts are now made overseas or mexico [if your lucky]., they just come in a deere box. and the price!!!!! on the other hand when i was much younger my dad bought a new 4010 and then a 4520 . that 4010 still had the same muffler , into 2006 ,the v belt lasted over 20 years also fuel pump [ tractor was used many hours ; the 4520 still has original muffler and its still in good condition.

Have you bought anything from fiat lately? Twine was 15$ more a ball than John Deere there generic fuel filters are about 5$ more than John Deere , and they dont stock a damn thing been waiting 3 weeks for a plow part and then theyll charge me freight .
The u joint proudly made in China was 175$ and took two weeks to get it here plus freight the tiny brass fittings were 75$ and two weeks out .

New holland parts have to be the most over priced parts there is! (Of you can get them in a timely manner)

The 'rebuilt' starter JD sells for a JD 445 garden tractor for $350 is a dead ringer for the new starter I got off ebay for $55.That was 4 years ago and the $55 starter is still doing the job.

Actually, Deere never made fuel pumps. Even in the old days the entire fuel system was built by other vendors just like the other manufacturers did. Automotive manufacturers did the same. Ford did venture into building their own carburetors for the Automotive division in the sixties but even then they left the pump to other vendors.

John Deere wagons were not built by Hiniker. They were built by Deere at the Welland Works in Ontario Canada. There might be a small chance that at the very end of wagon production that Hiniker factory made some gears for Deere using Deere tooling. The very last 714a and 716A forage boxes were built by Badger using Deere tooling. Everything like the 1065A,1075A and older were built by Deere. The early gears were most likely built at the Wagon Works in Moline. Tom

A while back our little factory at Fairfield Il. Airtex made JD OEM fuel pumps and Ford OEM pumps. And some others. OEM pumps were held to much higher standards than the ones going to part stores. One way they did this was to reject the entire semi load if one failed their specs.

Its not just the later model JD running gears that are just like Hiniker ones its the one built in the 60-70's that match and all built by Hiniker. Its the same way with the rotary hoes both match execpt for color. The JD decal and green paint is what makes them better! No doubt.
