Looking for thoughts on how to find my boyhood tractor . It was sold in 1996 . It is standard with round fenders and has a 3-pt. hitch . Also the front end was turned around , thus a shorter wheel base .

First and foremost, keep your eyes open. I had a tractor that my Dad sold show up on Craigslist out of the blue, 18 years after the fact. They wanted stupid money for it, and would not budge on the price, so I passed on it. It showed up again here about a month ago on a road that I often travel. Still haven't been by when anyone is home to ask them about it.

What were the circumstances of the sale? If it was traded into a dealer then your best bet is to go to that dealer and see if they will look it up in their records. If it was sold at auction, find the auctioneer. If it was sold cash deal to a stranger, well, you're probably out of luck.

There may be issues with sharing records like that, as they have no idea who you are and no interest in vetting you and verifying your story before giving out personal information. I know here at work it's a thing called "PCI" and you get in big trouble sharing customer information; you can even go to jail.

Regardless of how you go about it, finding the tractor will be a long shot.

doucea welcome to YT! My thought is good luck and boy will you need it. Do you have the serial number? I would guess
not or you would have posted it here. Do you have any old family records that you could go through that might have it in
there? Was it bought new by your family and is the dealer it came from still in business? Maybe you can get the serial
number that way. Without the number you are really fanning in the wind. Do you know who bought it from your family or
was it traded off? There were over 58,000 total produced, now I realize that not all were Standard round fenders. The
thing about it is that it could have covered a lot of ground since 1996 and reality is there is a good chance it could have
been scrapped and is long gone. I do not know how old you are but if having a tractor like one you remember back then is
the best way to do it. Keep an eye out for one that looks like what you want and fix it up to resemble the one you
remember. Otherwise you will spend all your time looking for the one that got away and you will have no time to enjoy one
as you once did all those years ago. My two cents.

I did the same thing with an 8N Ford.It was bought new by my grandfather in '52.My dad later bought it from grandpa in '60.Dad sold it in 68,it went to old Mexico. It was the first tractor I ever drove.Knew it would never be fpund,so I eventually found a'52 side dostrobutor, just like Dad's.I feel like a kid again when I drive it.:)Brings back happy memories.

A lot can happen to a tractor over 25 years. As tractors get older they often don't get the care and maintenance that a newer tractor receives, so the individual tractor that your dad actually owned could be rough shape by now. Finding it and convincing the owner to sell it could take a lot of time and money. The suggestion to find one similar to what your dad had is good, even if you have to swap some parts to get the same options as your dad had. If you will be working the tractor, consider a 4020 which is an improved 4010, but still similar to operate.
