got a shingle removing tool that actually works pretty good. last time i had to use the old scoop shovel and it dont really remove all the nails. this tool is the cats meow! i got to get his grain bin done before the rain comes on monday. i am going to cheat and put some tin on, lol. but the big job is my tractor shed 20x60 i also need to reshingle. have 30 bundles sitting here for the one side. any helpers out there?

Looks like that tool would work pretty slick! We used to use a potato fork for lifting shingles. That worked pretty well, but you usually had to go back with a flat bar and get the rest of the nails.

Up here, roofers will charge you more on a quote if they know your roof is lumber as opposed to plywood. Obviously, it must be more work and maybe more re-nailing the original roof wood down for popped nails for whatever reason. I would guess that plywood holds the original nails better.

I stripped a house with plywood one time. Roof was not vented and all the nails were rusted off, renailed the whole roof. Put vents in also. Never know what you will find.

Around here most guys just put strapping over the shingles and then tin the roof. Not sure if it is a good idea or not but no one wants to remove shingles. You have to strap it to tin after they are removed so why do the extra work? I always wonder about the extra weight but haven't seen any buildings collapse yet.

i am doing the 2 bins with tin as i am recycling a bit of tin on hand. and the big shed is gonna go back with shingles as i have the shingles on hand also. but yes if i was buying or could afford all this tin it would definitly be tin. just gotta make do with what i got. the shed is gonna be quite the deal as i have about 6 different colors of shingles.

A metal roof is lighter than asphalt shingles by quite a bit.

Flying is allowed now. Old lady be happy ur not chasing her around the back yard..

I will now that side has the tin on now. Other side shingles are stripped and ready for tin in the morning.
