Why cant you just add a 3 spool valve in a loader to get a third function ?

You can. It's easier if the tractor has open center hydraulics, but also doable with closed center. I put a 4 spool valve on my Case VAC. One spool operates the Eagle Hitch arms, one gives external remotes at the back and two go to the front to be able to operate my snowplow for both up/down and angling the blade.

Nobody is saying you can't but a lot of folks are OCD and don't want an ugly auxiliary valve bolted to the fender of their tractor or hanging off the loader frame on some birdpoop-welded bracket.

A factory third valve is a much cleaner installation.

You can. I put a 3 spool on the loader on a 3010 Deere so I could run the hydra push manure spreader with it.

I hung a 3 spool on the factory bracket so I could have free remotes decided I would get a 3 spool hoping some day Ill find a grapple fork for the bucket .
