DB was known for gear boxes and judging by the location of the pulley there is some gearing involved. How is the pulley driven?
 
Here is a picture of the David Brown Thresherman offering a clearer view of the front. Pulley is attached to gearbox and is obviously driven thru that pipe like casement going back to the left side of the tractor. Probably hooks up back where a normal side pulley would be mounted.

I understand it was a chain drive but MJ will know if he jumps in.

There were only around 350 of these built in this modified form from ex-WD design for aircraft tugs. DB had a number built when the war finished and modified them to an agricultural spec. They were also equipped with a winch at the rear.
 
You are right Majorman they were chain driven from the PTO shaft. There are a good many of these tractors in both restored and original condition here in the UK. MJ.
