It will come as no surprise to some that it is cold in Sask. But this morning is the coldest in a string of well below normal days. Yesterday's "high" was -20F. Just about sunrise here now I am seeing 41, maybe 42 below. I heard it was warmer in Alaska. Seriously.

Thats cold. Brrr.33

I remember growing up in Wisconsin and experiencing those temperatures. -40 in the morning going up to -20 later in the day and then right down to -40 again. Folks were
so concerned about glaciers getting started (again) that plans were being made to fly coal dust in USAF planes and spread it on the advancing glaciers. Thankfully that
hasn't happened yet.

I've never crossed the border but its gotta be a good two-three hours South, depending on how much of a hurry I was in.
I hear its wild and windy in Colorado according to the news. Serious fires around Denver, Boulder areas. At least it is quiet here. And cold.

Yes,wild fires are burning west of
Denver,fueled by dry brush/Forrest and
100 MPH winds.As of last night,over 500
homes were lost.We are safe here,60
miles from the Colo/Utah border.

once your getting close to 40 it dont matter much as -40 is the same on both. its just cold. - 35 c is -31f for example.

I cant imagine how that must feel. I have lived in the southern US my whole life. Never experienced below zero, less than 10 F only once or twice maybe when I was younger. Teens a few more times but usually no more than 4 or 5 times a year at most.

Spent about a half hour outside this morning and really the only cold I felt seriously was my hands. Holding a shovel or fork handle just causes my hands to
freeze up to the point I start to lose feeling. Wool mitt liners inside leather but nothing keeps that cold out for me. Otherwise I was fine. Hardly any
noticeable wind here but they were talking wind chill factor down near -50 out in the open. I won't be shooting any outdoor photos or video at these temps. And if
my phone rings it is going to stay in my pocket as I won't be taking my mitts off to answer it.

A friend of mine who lives in north of Humboldt Sask in the village of St Benedict was talking about the -40F temps you guys get. I told him the coldest I have seen here in Iowa was -32F. I said when it gets that cold nothing much moves in Iowa. He said nothing much moves in his area at those temps. The coldest recorded temp in Iowa is -47 at the western Iowa town of Washta back in the early 1900's. We haven't been anywhere close to that since then. We don't need a repeat of that temp anytime soon. Stay warm.

RobCons I hear you! Lived in Texas my whole life, only seen it hit 0 F once,
and that was last year. I say seen instead of felt, 'cause I didn't open the
door until it was over!

But several years ago I was in Wyoming (in the summer), talking to one of the
locals about their severe winters.

He told me the cold there doesn't bother him as bad as the damp winters down
south. Said he worked an oil rig off the coast of Houston one year. They had a
freak cold snap, blowing rain right at freezing. Said he thought he was going
to die! Coldest he has ever been in the winter, and the hottest he's been in
the summer!

Century old record low temps have been broken here this week. I see Sask. Power also reported record high electricity use for the same period. Must be all those electric cars plugged in to recharge. :)

The coldest I've been in, was in Black River Falls Wi. in the late 60's or early 70's. In a 1966 GMC, and the heater motor burnt out after midnight. Stopped at a Skelly Truck stop and the waitress let me get a heater motor out of the shop. She said it was 42 below. I got it blowing some warm air, let it run at 1800 RPM and went to bed. That was enough for me.

I worked in White River one winter only in late 70's! several mornings it was -50 F. Any big trucks or equipment never shut down.

37 F here in South Central Ontario this last day of
December 2021. I spent the entire morning out on my
open station 930 Case hauling out manure, but it has
become too sloppy and slippery to continue.
Temperatures like you are having is the reason the
Canadian government had recruiting ads in
newspapers in the Ukrainian, Norway ,Denmark and
Sweden . Those folks were already accustomed to
sever cold winter weather. My Grandfather left Norway
and homestead in south Saskatchewan, near Estavan .
He didnt have a problem with the winters, but found
the summers nearly unbearable for heat.

They ran those same ads in England and my grandfathers fell for it. Must have been a severe shock when they experienced their first winter here. There was a reason the land was free or cheap.

sorry about your weather sir

rusty6 3 days after Christmas 1974 my brother a friend and I went to The North Slope of Alaska to work and ran into this. Lynn

The record low windchill in Deadhorse was -102F(-74C) on 28Feb 1989! A chart record of windchill at ARCO's facility in Prudhoe Bay on 13Jan 1975 shows -128F(-89C).

What do you heat your house with? And can you keep it comfortable when it's that cold? What about vehicles starting?

Natural gas. 70 degrees by day but I like it a little cooler at night when I'm sleeping. I don't know if anything here would start without being plugged in to the block heaters for a few hours. Blazer might if it had enough battery power to turn over.

I grew up on a dairy farm in South Central Wisconsin. In January of 1951 it was -53 which was and is coldest it has ever been at that
location. The bottom went out of our thermometer that day. Everything in barn froze up and was really a chore to tend to dairy cows that
day. We used wood heat in house.

I toyed with the idea of hiring on up there. They were advertising for employees down here in N. Texas. Forget the year.......1985?????. Pay was $30k/year plus expenses....asked the wife and she said: You'll go by yourself if you go and I may not be here when you get back. Well that took care of that wild idea.

Texasmark We ran equipment hauling rock to drilling pads. Here is a picture of my brother in the belly dump he was running. Lynn
