I've never been up to your area but it has always amazed me the vegetation can go from non-existent at -17 to green and lush in a couple of months. You must be able to feel it grow beneath your feet.

I am about 350 miles north west of Tom, the thing that amazes me is how how fast brown grass can turn to green grass, and it seems like Quack grass. on the edge of a gravel road is the first !!!

Ah Yes! Good old quack grass. If you haven't experienced it, you don't know a thing about it. Introduced to this country from Europe by the United States Department of Agriculture as 'A hardy grass'. And boy is it ever. We thought we'd never be able to get rid of it. But it is an excellent roadside grass. Very cold and hot weather hardy and roots about twelve feet long that reproduce endlessly.

those are some great john deere pictures!
i enjoy seeing that you still use and work them.

thanks for posting them!

I never had a 105 combine but did have a 95, well worn out, not pristeen like the picture. I was out tilling the garden with my 3 pt tiller for a neighbor this afternoon. No picture.....open station Ford 3000 6' tiller.

Sorry, no. Was this years crop...don't think we got any rain between planting and harvest. I took the picture in the best part of the field. Made about 35 bu. per acre and 36 pounds test weight.

You had to have your soil in pristine condition to do that. Had a neighbor that planted Blackeyed Peas and rolled them over for soil conditioning, year after year. One year the same thing happened and he got a good crop too. Glad it worked for you!
