Tachometer question

I have an old Airguide tachometer that I would like to use on my 49 Vac. It is set up for 8 cylinders (with no provisions for 4 or 6) and I was wondering if I can get it to work on 4. Ive seen converters/adapters that can be wired in and are controlled by 4 small switches that can be set to convert the signals. Are these any good? Is this the only way to do it? Thanks

Pull the cover off,I have seen some old ones that the switch or jumper wires are under the cover.

Before investing a lot of time in this, what is the max RPM on the tach?

Most are in the 6000-8000 RPM range, not practical for use on a 1500 RPM tractor engine.

You need to provide an important piece to you puzzle, is it your tractor on 6
or 12 volts? I am going to pose a different question to the forum about your situation. Any idea what the model number of the tach is? Look like it could be a 3 digit number starting with a 6..
Edit: Had a 7 in there instead of a 6 for the volts, would not want to put something wrong number or word in there the Tractor Vet might get confused.

Years ago I was trying to put one of them 4/6/8 tachs. on a 14 hsp. Kohler engine in a garden tractor and ended up destroying the electronic ignition. The cool factor didn't look so cool then.
