sprayer suggestions

have a lot of invasive plants on our land (wooded hilly with a good amount of logging trails) want to get a 12v sprayer to apply roundup. have a carryall to use behind my 8n (converted to 12v) that i would use to carry the sprayer. thinking i could get to most of the areas from the drivers seat and even if i have to get off it that's what hoses are for. thinking of adding extra hose length to extend the reach. would only need or want a smaller tank like 15 gal max.

so what to look for? what to avoid? want to have enough power to send a coarse spray a fair distance.

lots of options out there from really cheap to massive overkill.

Why not get a backpack sprayer and walk those hills. No chance of tipping the tractor over, no $4 gas burned, improves your fitness, and you can get right to the plants you want to spray.

Consider the idea more. If you spray a complete kill herbicide under tree canopy It may wash terribly from a lack of grass growth to hold the dirt. I would look at more of a broad leaf spray rather than roundup for this application. A wooded area is an ecosystem of it's own sort of with the growth of more than just the invasive species and considered weeds. You already say it is hilly which of course means different things to different people. Like TD in VA might think what you have is flat and Some of the guys in IL or IN might think you are on mountains just the location make that much difference. Yes ther is some pretty steep hills in southern IN and IL along the river.

look at a Milwaukee 18V backpack sprayer. I also agree to use a broadleaf herbicide or one for woody plants.

I have a small Kubota that I built a bracket on the front and carry a small 25 gal 12 volt spot sprayer on it. I can still use the tractor for other purposes and can spot spray with it at the same time when the need arises. I keep roundup mix in it most of the summer but can mix other mixes in it when needed.

Maybe you might want to do that to your Ford or make a bracket to go between your front and back wheels on the side of your tractor. I did that to a small Massey I had before the Kubota.

I have a big sprayer so I dont know read lots of reviews sort through the bs ones and try to get a good idea for whet you are buying dont buy to cheap . Lots of chemicals better than roundup that will kill the weeds and not everything that isnt a problem roundup Is great for some things and you could spot spray just individual weeds with it I guess

Used an 8n with a 15 gallon spot sprayer in a carryall for a lot of years spraying fencerows.
Never went through the woods with it, and not much in the way of hills.

Have since switched to using a side by side (Polaris) I bought, with the tank in the back...clutch, brake, steering and spraying could sometimes keep me pretty busy on the 8n. And the Polaris rides better :) But if I hadn't bought the Polaris, I'd still be using the 8n, so....

Since I was doing fencerows, didn't have to spray that far, maybe 20ft.

Just bought an on sale 15 gallon spot sprayer for the job way back when. About the only original part left is the tank, everything else has been replaced at least once, the pump a couple times.

You can either do what I did and buy cheap to get started, then buy better components as the originals die...pump, spray wand...or buy better (and pay for it) from the start.

Maybe buy a cheap one (if there is such a thing right now) to start just to make sure it will do what you want.

And on my fence rows, I'll use a broadleaf killer (2,4-d or crossbow) so it leaves the grass alone.

I did find when replacing components, Ebay and Amazon are usually way less expensive than farm store prices. Something to keep in mind.
Flushing it out good with clean water when you're done for the day will go a long way keeping your sprayer running. And run some RV antifreeze through it before winter sets in...freezing is why one pump and wand got replaced on mine 'cause I can be a dummy and forgot.

I have a 15 gallon tank in a small trailer attached to my L110 used to be JD lawn mower, now my JD Gatorette.....a local farm store sells 2.2 GPM 60 PSI (static) at around $60 that's hard to beat. I have several nozzles but for spraying Bag Worms on my 160 Juniper (Cedars) that are about 30' tall it works great and reaches the top. I just ran two strand piece of outdoor extension cord from a pair of alligator clips to an on-off switch on the dash through a 10 amp fuse back to the sprayer. The motor is auto shut off at 60# when you release the trigger but the switch is for when the mower is not in use.

I have a sprayer from Northern Tools. It holds 55 gallons. It hooks to the three point hitch. It will spray 15 foot wide or you can use the hose to spot spray.

RU is not really compatible with those cheap 12 v spot pumps. Make sure you flush it well after use.

As others have said below, round up kills everything, and then you have bare ground which will wash away due to erosion. So, you might want to use a selective herbicide like 2 4 d, or crossbow. As far as the 8n and a carry all, it won't take much weight to make it light in the front end. Our county has a pull behind 200-gallon sprayer with a Honda engine on it, that can be rented. It has broad jet nozzles on the back and a hose and wand for hand spraying. I pull it mostly with my tractor that has a foot feed accelerator pedal so I can speed up or slow down which is very handy when I use the handheld wand. I sometimes only put 20 gallon in it for hand spraying. Mark.

15 gallon with the 12volt 2.2gpm 60psi diaphragm pump.
I have not put a gage on it but I would bet it is no where near 60psi. Acts like maybe 30 when spraying.

I replaced the original hose with 50' flea market air hose.

I wanted to add this sprayer will spray 15' with the wand while my 15gal electric one only sprays maybe 3'. Mark.

If you get something from Northern Tool GET THE SERVICE PLAN. Not knocking Northern Tools stuff but those electric pumps don't last long. I usually get a couple years out of them and am replacing. Nice to just have to buy another service plan for 15 instead of a $100 new pump. I have done this many times.

garlic mustard is the first plant to green up; weeks ahead of everything else. that's when i spray so the collaterall damage is minimized.

Well my garden hose at 85 static psi (so says the guildersleeve) won't shoot 30' up but my 2.2 GPM 60 PSI portable will!

2N never had a problem with light on front end. Had a 55 gal drum sprayer mounted on 3 point hitch with a am guessing 20/ foot boom. haven't had for a few years now but it never was light on front. Then we had a homemade carry platform we used on the back to carry water out to hog water in 10 gallon milk cans that filled was over 100 pounds each and 8 cans, would have been at least 900 pounds total weight on the 3 point hitch and never a problel with light front end and rear mounted manure loader again no problems with light front end. Still have that tractor.
