New project! Case 648 FEL with backhoe

I just post over on tales that I think I have too many projects going, but I couldnt pass this up! This is I believe a 1983 Case 648 loader with backhoe.

I brought it home this evening and son is already wanting to know when we can get it going!

The previous owner said it hasnt run in 10 years he parked it under his back porch and there it sat. It has an 18 horse 2 cylinder Onan engine that is free it needs tires, and new wiring for sure. I have the owners manual and shop books. Thats our starting point.

IF we can get it running, and IF it will operate as it should, I think it will be really handy around here. Ill post updates as we make progress. I hope you guys will follow along with us, as Im sure we will have questions! As alway thank you for your help, knowledge, and advise!
 
Boy would I love to have that . I have an onan I am scraping out not sure if any of the parts are the same mine is a cck a
 
Back in 1980 I worked on a construction job where they had taken that backhoe unit and mounted it on a small turn-table with a 20 hp electric motor to run a hydraulic pump. We were excavating 30' diameter shafts down about 45' to intercept storm drain tunnels near Cleveland. We would excavate the shafts with a clam-shell bucket and drive sheet piling. We would drop the backhoe unit in with a crane and use it to excavate the clay around the edges where the bucket could not reach. That little unit really worked hard, but it held up just fine. Everyone called it the Judy - I have no idea why, maybe that was the name of the company or person who fabbed it up.
