Being put out of business by Goats, and Sheep

Not really. Someone is bringing in sheep, and goats to eat the dry grass, and weeds. in larger fields, for fire protection. I don't know if they are charging or just feeding
the animals. They have a large white dog watching over the flock. The one field I lost is not going to be missed by me, lots of stumps, and junk. I did
a couple of nice mowing jobs today. No surprises in the fields, I like that. Stan

I have heard of government paying to run goats to chew down scrub and grass for fire protection before. I was going to try and get into it at one time but backed out.

I have a friend that rents out a herd of goats for vegetation control. The Great Pyrenees dogs I have will guard against predators and the goats will follow them if there is a threat to the herd. They are friendly to humans but deadly to Coyotes and stay dogs.

A 'former' friend of mine gave me a momma and kid goat. Brought them home and they immediately started chowing down on EVERYTHING that I didn't want them to. Managed to capture the (insert your own invectives), drove them 5 miles away from me and let them go. Did NOT care if they survived. The damage they did in 1 day was amazing. If I'd just shot them , then I would have to do 'other' stuff - including shovels or vultures. Live with it

Thats a really impressive response to not being able to handle livestock. You should be proud.

Maybe you should have given them back to you friend instead.

They are not stupid and will eat the best stuff first and the crappy stuff last.
The stuff humans like to look at just happens to be their favorite stuff too.

Turning them loose to fend for themselves is, to be nice, ...low.

I am going to be very polite and not say what I think like I usually do but, I think you get the drift, yes?

Had goats as a child, they are pretty easy to deal with. Not sure what your issue was. Dumping them off was not a good option. If you think they are a pain you better not raise cattle.

Agreed.

My county seat town hired a goat man to graze his goats on the rocky ledges along a lake that are hard to access by humans to control the weeds. He also grazed them on the weedy banks of a drainage ditch. The goats cleaned it up real nice but the idea lasted only a couple of years.
