Battle of the Philippine Sea

Considerinig the situation, the Japanese plan was sound but, by this time in the war, American advantages in both equipment and experience was overwhelming.

Good read, UD.

This was a very important battle too. As vaguely mentioned in the article, the U.S. devastated the Imperial Navy in all assets and soldiers, mainly in the summer of 1942. Their Navy simply couldn't recover assets and skilled pilots and soldiers fast enough to remain dominant. This battle was truly evident in their lack of skill and equipment.

Admiral Yamamoto once said: "I fear all we have done is to awaken a sleeping giant and fill him with a terrible resolve." Those are powerful yet surprising words from an Admiral of our enemy. He was a smart man yet very loyal to the Imperial Navy. I think he realized the consequences of war with the U.S and knew it would be impossible to succeed. He was already dead before this battle, got shot down while touring his Pacific Bases using 2 transport/bombers and only 6 Zero escorts, they faced the wrath of 16 P-38s. Sorry for the long post BTW.

The intercept happened because we knew where he was going and when he would be there.
