Farmall H Sleeve Protrusion Spec

Good evening everyone

Does anyone know what the sleeve protrusion should be on a farmall H? My sleeves currently seem to be sitting at .005" above the block deck. I hear some people are saying .006" max and some say perfectly flat. I figured I would ask everyone here before possibly wasting the head gasket

Thanks- Ryan :D

I don't know the answer to your question.
I replaced the head gasket on my Farmall
c.
I retorted the head 6x. Each time was
after engine had ran for 30 minutes.

I'm guessing the sleeve had something to
do with retorquing

i dont even know if there is a protrusion on them. this protrusion thing is on diesels like the 282 for example. plus important that they be
the same , not have some at .003 and some .006. this is a gas engine and the compression is nowhere near a diesel engine. say comparing 100
lbs to 400 lbs. plus how are you measuring it.

Those are dry sleeves, and it has been 40 years since I had one apart. So not for sure but thought those were flat with the block.

All of them are around 0.005". It has dry sleeves. I just can t for the love of my 1.5lb. hammer seem to get them any less than .005

Better check sleeves good if very rough with hammer. What happens is the counter bore part will only go so far but sleeve section will try to go a little farther and a crack will start. If not noticed the sleeve can separate from flange and be pulled down to connecting rod or crank, then bad news. If the counterbores were clean in block you can't go any more. .005 is within spec. Could be anything. Counterbore bored light when built, sleeve flange thicker than some or block surface decked at one time. Good head gasket should seal on .005.

Thank you very much D Slater

I bought a sleeve inserting / removing tool from something like "J&D productions Inc.". I ve been using that to tap on to push the sleeves down. I didn t know if it was something I should try spending my time to get it flush if it s either fine or perfect. I didn t even think about if the block had been milled before. I ll keep an eye out for cracking. I m going to try Indian Head Sealer on this gasket and hope the .005 gap will seal. I m hoping it will work out.
