Ford 841 Diesel Fuel Filter

Hi, I bought a Wix filter element for the Roosa Master filter on this tractor; the filter looks right but it does not have the two small cork gasket rings; rather it has three O-rings of square cross section, same diameter as the filter, plus a small rubber o-ring about 1/2 inch diameter. I cant understand how it is going to seal and not leak fuel when assembled. Perhaps I will need a modern filter housing so I can buy elements for it?

I believe that uses the same 33166 Wix as my Ford 3000? When I changed mine last year I put one of the big gaskets on the top and bottom of the filter element, and the little oring on the pipe that goes into the center of the filter. Mine hasn t leaked.

With the filter off the first thing on the plate is a big gasket/oring it should be the same size as the outer filter. Then the filter goes on then the other big oring then the cover.
So now these two orings are preventing the filter from leaking at the outer edge where it meets the metal.

Next thing down is the small oring then the bolt. This oring prevents leaking between the top cover and the bolt head.

Now you ready to loosen the little tab bolt on the top cover and turn on the fuel. Let it run till all the air is out the filter and tighten the tab screw.

If you did it right there should be no air in the system and it should start right up.

I researched that very thing a few years ago. I first noticed that the genuine Ford filter kit did not have the fat o-ring or seal that goes at the bottom center of the filter. I'd say 95% of the new filter elements installed on the 601, 801, and 901 tractors are not filtering the fuel before it enters the injector pump. Expect short pump life because of this.
A good option is to adapt a filter base from a 3000-5000 Ford. Just be sure to plumb the lines correctly. there are arrows to show fuel flow direction. Also these filter elements are about half price of one for the 801.

Those glass bowl filters with the bowl on the bottom with a bolt from the top or up from the bottom should be junked. We had one on a 674 that broke while running in the driveway. P poor system. That's those English CAV deals. If I changed it I would go to a spin on and for get the whole element set up.
