I have noticed that my 6' Brush mower is not cutting like it should (7 years old )
should I just buy new blades or try to sharp the old ones.

We can't tell what you have or what you've done with the blades over the last 7 years. You need to take the old blades off and see for yourself.

If they're fairly straight and are just bashed up along the cutting edge, AND you have an appropriate tool to sharpen them with, sharpen them.

If they're bent, or worn to a point at the tip, or seem thin, get new blades.

If you aren't sure, take a picture and post it.

Clean the blade cutting edge up with a 4-1/2 inch angle grinder with angle grinder blade intended for steel. Dont get the blades sharp to the touch though. Wingnut

I would stand it up on it's face with the drive shaft off to the side and grind them to the sharpness you like. No removing and no working under it on the ground. Do tie it up so it don't fall over on you. Don't want to hear your dead from it falling.

Support it safely so you can work on it comfortably.... I just sharpen them with a flap disc on an angle grinder. They don't have to be sharp.... but some kind of an edge is good if you're mostly just cutting grass. Make sure the blades are sound and not cracked. If they're cracked, replace. I'd sooner not weld on them.

Have the blades made contact with the deck? Problem with newer mowers is that the blade carrier bend easily and allows the blades to rise such that it is cutting weeds on the bend of the blades instead of the tips. New blades or sharpening old ones are not going to help that much. If your blades are still mowing flat and don't vibrate, I would do what others suggested.

Lot's of good advice, but don't sharpen them too sharp if your cutting brush, you will have more tire trouble! Are you running the engine up to pto speed?

If you haven't touched your blades in 7 years, by all means, try sharpening them first. They may be too badly worn to sharpen by now.
