My Mother passed away a couple of years ago. She was 10 in 1941. Every year on December 7 she would tell us about the attack and Roosevelts speech. She would also remind us on VE Day and VJ Day. She said everyone on their road sacrificed at least one son to the war. It was one of the major events in her life.

Yup never forget. But then why would anybody vote for the folks that have started or got us into almost every war we've been in. All bolsheviks.

Yes I know what day it is. I am saddened to report that after 2 hours of local TV news no mention of the historical significance of today has been mentioned.

My dad and father-in-law both fought in that War, I don't understand to this day why anyone would buy a Japanese made vehicle. I will never forget.

I had two half-brothers and one brother-in-law who fought in the Pacific during WWII, My brothers were in the Navy and my brother-in-law was in the Army. They never forgot who was the enemy.

I won't forget. My Dad was part of the occupational force. Also my sister's birthday today.

I think we remember more things that happened in our lifetime.
Where were you when Kennedy got shot?
Where were you when the space shuttle blew up?
Where were you when the planes crashed into the towers?
We remember the history we lived through. Dec 7 is just another day if no one mentions it.

I have no idea when Hitler started WW2.
It's hard to forget when Russian Hitler (Putin) invaded Ukraine.
I don't forget things I lived through.
It doesn't make Dec 7 any less significant. I wasn't born yet.

If you want to find out more about Pearl Harbor, an excellent movie to watch is Tora, Tora, Tora. Of course there are numerous books and documentaries.

Too many are forgetting and unfortunately many of them are our leaders and representatives.

On this day in 1941, Rear Admiral Isaac Campbell Kidd died on the USS Arizona during the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor. Kidd was born in Cleveland in 1884. A graduate of West High School and the U.S. Naval Academy, Kidd was posthumously awarded the Congressional Medal of Honor for his actions in command on the bridge of the USS Arizona when it was bombed, killing him along with 1,100 others. Two Navy destroyers have been named in Kidds honor.

It was before my time but I grew up with WWII veterans that made an everlasting impression on me of the importance of that day and the sacrifices that were made by the ones I never met. We were a mighty country back then and I often wonder if we could win that war today because of the lack of manufacturing resources, labor, and the inability to survive if the utility infrastructure would be disrupted. Not to mention the push to disarm the country and just let some country walk right in with no way to defend ourselves.

I just finished reading a book on the Marine Raider Battalions in WWII by Carole Engle Avriett. They did some training at Hawaii before going into combat in the South Pacific and were shocked by what they still saw at Pearl early in 1942.

For WWII buffs, it's an interesting book and hard to put down. It's unbelievable what those men went through. At Guadalcanal they fought for days in the jungle in rain with no food. It's no wonder a General, Vandegrift I think, coined a verse:

'When they get to heaven, St. Peter they can tell,
Another Marine reporting, Sir. I've served my time in hell'.

Uncle was one of a crew of four that manned a LCPR(troop landing craft) in the south pacific.Craft was hit by a shell, killed everyone on board except my Uncle who lost his hearing. He was just a kid at the time.He was never the same after that...got in trouble,in and out of prison. What kept him going was his tremendous artistic talent. He had an art gallery and sold his art.I have one of his paintings that he did while in prison.Picture is called nature's crown and is stunning. He loved to fish and in his later years him and I spent a lot of time in a fishing boat.He was in his sixties then and I was twenty something.Got to know him pretty well.

My Uncle Raymond Tellin was on the cruiser USS Rawleigh when the Japanese attacked Pearl Harbor--The Rawleigh took one torpedo and was started to list and if you read the ships battle log for the day it tells how him and another sailor were credited saving the ship from capsizing by counter flooding! He then was sent to the Oklahoma to help cut sailors out of the capsized battleship.. He was a quiet man and didn't talk much about the war but I am proud my name is Dennis Raymond and we named our son Raymond Dennis--He will always be my HERO--RIP Uncle Ray!!! Anchors Aweigh and God Bless America---Tee

We have a couple of brothers locally. One was in the Death March and survived. The other brother told us that all soldiers and sailors had to take an oath not to speak of their experience in WW2 for 50 years. When the 50 years were up many started sharing what happened.

My grandfather was on Wake Island as a civilian working for the contractor Morrison Knutson building a runway for PanAm airlines when the Kito Butai attacked Pearl Harbor. He spent the next few weeks fighting off the Japanese, but was eventually captured. He spent the next four years as a SLAVE to the Japanese. He endured the brutality that goes hand in hand with slavery. After the war, he came home and farmed for fifty years.

He drove Toyota vehicles. He understood that the society that willingly enslaved him was not the same society of today. Japan is one of our closest allies in Asia. And yet guys come on here and claim they will never own Japanese cars. Do they hold Germany and Italy in the same regard? Crazy.

I just visited another forum where a business owner throughout the course of the day asked each of his 15 employees when it was just himself and the employee together what the significance of December 7th was and not one employee knew the answer.

I won't forget. My father works for a company who restores WW2 airplanes, especially P-51 Mustangs. I actually got to sit in the cockpit of my favorite mustang at their hanger :D

I had the privilege of visiting the USS Arizona memorial while serving on a US Naval Base (Lualualei) in Hawaii about 1960.

Wife and I visited the Arizona memorial while visiting older son when he was stationed in Hawaii. I bought a flag that had been flow over it then and have since bought one that flew over it on a July 4th to use in a 4th of July parade mounted on my other son's 1942 Ford GPW. Both flags are documented.

I maintain our village cemetery. The cemetery has four WWII soldiers that were killed in action. One missing in action. One killed in battle and two died at sea when their battle ships were hit.

None of them have family in the area. I save flowers from the previous memorial day and put them on their graves. If anyone deserves a.flower it's those four guys!

Moms uncle was the.first in the county to be drafted. He faught the Nazis and came home with two purple hearts and several other medals. Never spoke of the war until late in life. The things he witnessed are unbelievable.

I remember my dad on this day. He was a tech sgt in the army air corp and spent 1944 in England and France. All of his deer camp buddies served in the war. None really spoke of their experiences. There were 12 iron crosses hanging on the wall at camp and someone brought back a Nazi photographers binder with many pictures that were taken in a desert. No one had any of the writing with the pictures translated so I have no idea exactly where.

The European theater started before 1939 Hitler had invaded chech and polish lands before that more like in 1936 or 37. He was elected Chancellor in 1933 and had started his reign to power as dictator then and had ideas long before that.

(quoted from post at 10:22:35 12/08/22) The European theater started before 1939 Hitler had invaded chech and polish lands before that more like in 1936 or 37. He was elected Chancellor in 1933 and had started his reign to power as dictator then and had ideas long before that.
March of 1938 invasion of Austria was his first "expansion" of Germany .

I was born in 1940. I remember as a 3 year old playin warIn the foundation trenches of homes being built. We would always stop., come to attention and salute whenever a a USAAF bomber flew over.
After the surrender one of my Dads pals who had a pilots license bought a surplus airplane. Nothin special. a P-51 D. $5500.! Which was the going price of a 3 BR home here then, and 3 million today. I got a ride with him sitting on his lap. He was one wild and crazy guy. Drove his own steam shovel by day.I vowed that day to fly fighter missions. I never dreamed that I would fly 440 in combat off the USS Constellation in Navy Phantoms.
