Oops - Baling Mishap Yesterday

Nearby there was some very late fall rain. Some neighbors and yours truly have been cutting stuff that has been largely dormant all summer but now has about 8 or ten inches of green grass in it. I rolled up my first round bale in a very l o n g time and hit the wrong lever and dumped the bale - without the string around it! Grrr!

Kelly - I've done the very same thing, and it is always right out by the road where all of the neighbors can see it and razz me about it forever. I can make a perfect bale in the back of the field where no one can see it!

I've never made any December hay, but I'm up here in Illinois.

X2 I've unrolled & re-baled several round bales when baling that twine or net wasn't applied correctly since I started custom baling in '87. I've also been guilty of inadvertently opening rear gate before twine/wrap was applied to completed bale.

Yup, been there, done that. Almost full bale, bale shape alarm went off, dumped the bale. At least the bale unrolls easier if it is done right after it is baled.

When re-baling a oops rd bale I use tractor front tire to unroll the bale then slow tractor engine speed to just above idle then when bale is completed & needs wrapping speed engine up to near advocated pto speed. I very rarely had a problem re-baling a bale.

Don't remember doing that too many times, but one in particular that I remember was when baling prairie grass in a hilly patch. Just dumped the bale so it would role down a hill and then rebaled it without much concern.

A lot of cornstalk bales netwrapped around here. They are common enough to blow open, its interesting to see the 4-5 piles per field in fall, and different ways folk deal with the pile.

I had that happen on a couple of occasions too. I was able to unroll them and they rebaled nicely.....phew!
