I have a blue lever forward of the clutch pedal on the left side of the bell housing. What is that for? I m a newbie. Sorry.

Sounds like you have a Ford.
If so it is probably an auxiliary
transmission.
Do some searching for Sherman Transmission on
youtube.
You'll figure it out.

There was a good guy that used to be on the Ford N board - Dell WA.
He's passed away now.
He used to say:
'I flunked mindreading, just ask my ex wife.'

After researching, you are correct it is a Sherman Transmission. Not exactly sure how that works but at least I know what it is.

There are different types of Sherman transmissions--overdrive, underdrive, or a combination of both. You can play around with it while driving the tractor. Shifting the lever forward or backward will go from regular drive to either overdrive or underdrive. If it's a combination unit, you can put the lever midway between the two positions, then move it outward about an inch, then pull it back again. This will put the transmission in regular, or direct drive.

Hope this helps. Let us know what you find out.
