JD 1010RU inner front wheel bearing removal

Having a bit of trouble removing the inside bearing and race from 1963 JD 1010 RU. Looks like race should be driven out via tool from hole in front of wheel. Hitting it pretty hard and not getting any movement. Looks like old race is starting to bend. Want to make sure this is the correct approach before I hit harder. Since new bearing, race and seal are being installed it is OK to ruin old race but I obviously don't want to damage the wheel itself. Currently using a big flathead screwdriver to knock out old race. Old bearing itself is so worn it is flopping around inside the old race and cannot be used to drive out assembly.

You'll need something more substantial than a screwdriver. There's a groove in the casting inside the hub. Get a good big long punch down in that groove, against the back of the race, and beat the tar out of it with a big hammer.

If not obvious you also need alternate side to side to drive the race out evenly. You likely will have to drive the side back that is more advanced than the other to get the race to drive out. The bearing is not necessarily worn out by your definition, the inner part is separate from the outer part. It is called a ..tapered roller bearing.. Here is a link to what should be the catalog parts page for your tractor, number 11 is what you are working with.

I have a 12 inch flat bar 3/8x1.5 I ground kinda a half moon on the end. That and a 2 pound sledge. Your problem is the screw driver.

It's pretty satisfying to hear the ''clink'' when they fall out.
