I dont understand why people put a straight pipe on a
tractor and then wear ear muffs to protect their ears from
the noise. I find them uncomfortable with glasses and
hearing aids, just put a muffler on it and go

I agree. Why make all that noise then, wear ear muffs to muffle the noise when a muffler would do the job? Ear muffs are uncomfortable and hot on warm days

My hearing is still pretty good. A lot of times I use ear plugs and muffs and mufflers on everything.

One possibility - more horsepower because less restriction in exhaust, or they think it sounds good.

turn up fuel like what i see no muffler less heat held in engine.
earlyer cat n cummins service manuals state end exhaust with as little curves
and restrictions as necessery.
we had a 12.7 detroit that was very quiet on the exhaust. but a new turbo a
year. i put straight pipe on it n new turbo. its still using that turbo

As a late teen or early twenties, I plowed with a WC with no muffler and no ear protection. Dumb! I may have put kleenex in my ears at times but now I am very hard of hearing. At least he has ear protection.
