I, like Old in a post below, posted this on the Massey Board and did not get a reply so I'll try here. I have a Massey 65 diesel with power steering. The cylnder is in front behind the grill. The power steering works great turning to the right but is hard to the left. I have tried to adjust the lock nut on the PS but that does not seem to make any difference. The power steering was not working at all when I purchased the tractor. I've cleaned out the reservoir and put in fluid. Any suggustions? thanks, Jerry

What locknut are you trying to adjust? There is the big tapered screw that goes down into the pedestal and the turnbuckle with a jam nut on either end that goes to the control valve attached to the front piston. You probably need to adjust the turnbuckle that goes to the valve. Make sure there is no play in the pins at the ends of that turnbuckle. Make small adjustments and recheck steering. Big Dean on the Massey Board sells a CD that has a picture and description of this adjustment.

Dan, the one I was turning was one that screwed straight down. There was a nut that I loosened and a screw inside the nut that had a screwdriver head on it. I adjusted it up and down (1/4 turns)and got no reaction from the steering. This was behind the right side screen. The piston is behind the left screen. Was I adjusting the tapered screw? thanks

The big screw going straight down can affect the total steering effort, but the turnbuckle controls the left/right balance adjustment. The turnbuckle is parallel and on top of the cylinder behind the grill. If the little pins at either end of the turnbuckle are badly worn, you may never get it to work right until you replace them. If you want a picture of it, give me your Email address and I'll try to send you one tonight when I get home.

Dan, I can probably find the turnbuckle now that I know where to look for it but if it's not any trouble to send a picture my email is Jrryyates@bellsouth.net thanks, Jerry

Is there more than one filter in line somewhere? I had a ford 2110 steering doing something similar. After several expensive trips to the "repair" shop, i learned there is another, larger filter at the bottom of the reservoir near the rear axle, in addition to the smaller filter screen at the pump. It was completely clogged. Dont know if a massey has something similar.

Dan's right about adjusting the turnbuckle. Make small adjustments. Helps to get the wife to turn steering wheel until it gets close.
