Did some shooting today.

Me and a friend of mine went to a local rifle range today and I finally sighted in my Armalite rifle. I was holding real tight groups at 25 yds. (30 shots within 1.5" of each other)
My buddy was firing his rifle at 100 yds. and I took a few shots at 100yds with his rifle and had 4" groups.
I havent been to a range in several years.

I love shooting.....ammo aint cheap anymore a box of 20 cartridges of .223 is $13 for the Remingtons and $6 for the wolf ammo.

I fired the 30-06 yesterday with some of my reloads. The best at 100 yds was 2 out of 3 touching , the 3rd was 1 inch from the others. Then the impact changed a lot. I found that the scope screws had to be tightened. After getting it dialed in again I had over 25 empties to reload.

Tight groups at 25 yards with a rifle? He11, I do that with a cap & ball .44 sixshooter.

Try 500 yards with a rifle on a Marine Corps rifle range. With open sights.

Yesterday I embarassed myself at the local rifle club with my AR 15 clone when I scored a 374 2X on a 50 round National Match course. If,standing, with my M1 Garand, I can't hold 4 inches at 100 yards,I am having a bad day (59 grains Reloader 19, 168 grain BT match, my H&R likes Speer). I love shooting, espically the CMP High Power Rifle games, but it does get kinda spendy, in time and money, to compete over the course with a M1A for a season or 2.

Quit using that crap factory ammo and start loading your own. You'll save money, shoot more, and get far better accuracy to boot.

My Model 70 Winchester bolt guns typically group inside of 1/2" at 100 yards off the bench. My .22-250, in particular, has a 16X scope; using reduced-power loads it will put bullets through the same hole all day long at 25 yards.

My M14 will typically stay within 1 inch at 100 yards with handloads, assuming I do my part.

ME and My friend ? ---- that sounds like the S$it before the Shovel ---- you should always put the person your talking about First in due respect ... as in (( my friend and I ))
as for 25 yards --- your almost standing on top of your target with a rifle .....

Now you know so be careful.

A good test is to say it in the singular, or " I went to the local rifle range" and "My friend went to a local rifle range" when put together it would be My friend and I went to the local rifle range".

Good grammmmer ain't not a bad thingy to know and enjoyed, ain't it not?

Ammo sure is getting expensive just like everything else. I re load my .357 ammo but reloading rile ammo is a lot more work because of all the re-sizing.

My dad called friday and we went out the the rifle range, I put three shots in the bullseye with my T/C Renegade muzzleloader at 50 yards. Then I shot his new .223 Ruger. We sighted it in with one of those magnetic bore sighters. After a couple fine adjustments, I dropped three in a 1/2" group at 50 yards, then another three at 100 yards.

I got some in also. Groundhogs starting to go under the back of the barn. Only had my varmint gun, but it took care of a couple of them. Had a great time in Presho, SD last year with that AR varminter, plenty of prairie dogs to go around. It was usually good out to 200-250 yds on the pups, but the bolt action Savage still is better. No kidding on the .223 ammo price. If you're going to shoot a lot, try to get a larger quantity or split it with a buddy.

The sooner you get your reloading equipment the better.....Lee is as good as any and the price is right......get yourself a stach of supplies ...cant never tell when the cost will go up or not be able to get it at all.......

I have several custom built rifles......i love to shoot......

I have way to many guns .....I am 72 years old and disabled.....I am going to start selling off my guns ,my shop equipment and my old tractors.....if something happens to me ,it will be a lot easier on my daughter........Don

With that grouping you either need more practice or are using open sites or need a better gun. Giggle

Hey its always fun to get out and shoot I have a range right beside my barn with a large hill for a back drop. Every once in while friends come by and we spend a few hours shooting my contender pistol with 30/30 and 17.223 barrels, thing kicks like a mule with that 30/30.

The scope is a low-grade Tasco, I had to do a lot of adjusting.
Keep in mind that I am just a guy out to have some fun and plink away, with an assault rifle.
I am not a pro-target shooter and like my first comment states I can get within a few inches of the bullseye at 100 yds. (I aint bragging)

The iron sights on an AR should be totally adequate for shooting offhand. On the other hand, if your rifle won't hold within 2 MOA (2 inches at 100 yards) off the bench, something is wrong. And a Tasco scope is the first thing I'd suspect.

Shooting 500 yards with an open sight in the Marine Corps taught me how accurate a M-14 can be. But "snapping in" was a little painful at first but it avoided getting "Maggie's drawers".

The M-15 that I have is only equipped to have a scope on it, no sights or a bead at the end of the barrel.
I will need to buy a good scope for my M-15, but Bass pro-shops may be the place or an independent dealer.

Speaking of scopes, I remember watching a video a while back at YouTube where a guy was firing I think were 300 WinMags and was using a scope and had it a bit too close to the eye for the recoil. It didn't show him firing, just the aftermath. Whew that guy was lucky. Nearly carved his eye out on that one. I meant to take my sisters and Mom out again this weekeend, but got busy. They come over about 4 times a year to get themselves practiced up and dialed in. Enjoy.

I believe you ment to say ONE should always put the person... One should never use the word you when the word one would be correct. How does it feel to be corrected in public like this.
