My grandfathers tractor, help id?

Hi all,

Have always wanted to pick up a tractor someday, and if I do, I'd like to get the same brand/model that my grandfather had. This was my sister and I on my grandfather's (Louis Engle of Maple Valley Wa) tractor. Can anyone identify it for me?

Thanks in advance and for looking.

That looks like a little Farmall 'Cub'. They made them for a number of years and they aren't all that hard to find.
Do your homework to make sure you're getting a solid tractor as a foundation for your project.
Best of success,

Farmall Cub was a 2/3rd scale Farmall A (later 100), so I think we're in the ballpark.

I'm curious to see if anyone knows how to tell the two apart without having some good scale in the picture.

In your picture is a Farmall Cub, mfg. by International Harvester...looks to be about a 1947 or 48, with wheel weights on all 4 wheels....

first one was built in 1947....about 10 HP........Don

40's CUB.

Note the ribbed hood, and the starter ahead of the flywheel housing. the larger tractors didn't have the multiple ribs on the hood, and the starter entered the flywheel housing from the rear.

A couple of CUB sites:

The shape of the tank tells it all, Matt. The A had the same teardrop shape as the rest of the letter series. The rear of the Cub's fuel tank was flat on top and straight on the sides, with something more like what I'd describe as a quarter-sphere shape that ends up dropping vertically at the rear, instead of tapering in and downward like the others.

I have an old IH and it looks similar to the picture here. My question is, is there a serial number anywhere to help determine the year and model?

If you happen to be in the market and close to WV, a friend of mine got suckered into taking three of them on trade for work performed. They have been sitting behind his garage in western WV. All three go for 2,000 I think. I do have pics if you are interested.

Shoot me an email if you hafta have one (or three).

There may be a serial # plate toward the front of the engine, on the right side, if you're sitting on the seat. That's where it is on my Cub Loboy.

Hi,

Now that you know what it is, goto external_link or a simular site. For tractorhouse go there, then at the bottom of the first page there is a line that says something to the effect "search by state price range etc." click there, then click international for yer make and type in cub for yer model. you can fill in state and price range and year if ya want. I tried it for Michigan and there seems to be lots out there.

Good luck,

Alf

Sorry Roger,

I often do searches on tractorhouse but the page stored in my favourites (ya I'm Canadian) is not the same as the homepage I sent ya to. For the one I gave a link to start with "tractors under 40 hp" or type international cub into the quick search. On the next page that comes up the sort options will be on the bottom of the page.

(quoted from post at 01:57:05 06/17/08) Thanks everyone who has replied to my question. At the time I don't have room for a tractor, but when that time comes, I'll definitely know where to look. Thanks for the links and info.

The picture looks chopped that I posted earlier, so I'm attempting to load it again using photobucket.
