NH Flail Mower

My New Holland 918H flail mower vibrates when I throttle the tractor up. It did it last summer and I just changed every single blade on it and it still does it. The cutter drum does not look like it took any hits really bad that it would warp it. I might just replace both beaings on the ends of the drum. What will make this thing vibrate? It is very loud too.

It could be the bearings. I'm not familar with the NH flails but you might want to check and see if the cutter shaft itself is bent. My dad was a big seller of Mott flails and one stupid operator got an MF275 tractor with duals stuck and when a tow truck came to pull him out, he rapped the chain around the cutter shaft! This was a two sided interstator that in addition to the 88 inch rear flail, had two 74 inch flails on the sides of the tractor. Needless to say it was a fairly heavy unit and was stuck really good. The rear flail had a vibration after the tractor was pulled out. I wonder why? After that my dad kept a spare cutter shaft in stock. Normally it's pretty hard to bend a 4 1/2 inch diameter cutter shaft but there are ways to do it. LoL. I'm not sure how your cutter shaft is balanced. Maybe it can be balanced to take away the vibration? Dave

I would try a process of elimination. I would take off the belt if it has one (I'm not familiar with the NH flails). If it quits vibrating then the problem is definitely in the cutter shaft or flails. I don't know if bad bearings will cause a problem, but a bent shaft will certainly vibrate.
