Finding caster beans.

Neighbor stopped me tonite and asked where he could buy caster beans to get rid of moles, he said he checked with the local Landmark farm store and they said they were out of them. I haven't heard of caster beans for years except for that disgusting caster oil EWHHH! I just learned recently that they extract cyanide from the beans. So does anyone know where he could get some caster beans?

Sounds like a bad search to me.. my guess is the gov't tracks any instance of castor bean purchas ( if they can ).. considering I believe that is what is needed to make ricin .. don't want to have a WMD mole killer do ya?

I'd just get the little spring loaded gizmos or the granules that the farm stores sells.

A place near here has them I think. Sheffield seeds. There was an article in the paper a year ago about a guy in the west ordering a signifigant amount from them. They turned him in to the police who arrested him on suspicion of trying to make ricin.
I thought mole ate worms and grubs in the ground. I wonder if they would even touch castor beans?
Your friend would be better off with some other type of mole control.

Cyanides are produced by certain bacteria, fungi, and alge. They are found in trace amounts in apple seeds, mangoes, and almonds. Cyanides ARE NOT produced by Castor Beans.

Castor beans, or the Castor oil plant (Ricinus commonis) seeds aren"t true beans. They contain 60% triglycerides (ricnolein) They also contain ricin in low concentration. The seeds are VERY deadly to dogs. It takes as many as 3 beans to poison a small child and as many as 8 to poison a healthy grown adult.

Brazil is the #1 grower of Castor oil plants in the world, mostly for production of castor oil, and as a source of biodiesel fuel.

Supplies of seed in the US are usually in short supply resulting from a very limited demand.

MF Poor that's what's wrong with gettin old I knew it was something poisonous but I couldn't remember the exact name sorry about that because it was ricin that was a problem with what was found in a Vegas hotel room linked to caster beans I don't know what that has to do what I started to talk about but he told me he doesn't have grubs because he is paying big money to have it treated but he has trouble with skunks digging in his yard again they are after grubs. I think his lawn service is ripping him off. I went on Scotts website a few years ago and we have a friend who works on the website and thier answer is or was that it is virtually impossible to rid your lawn of grubs 100% because of transient beetles thier best answer is to treat annually with Grubex$$$$ and keep your lawn healthy. I'm kind of buffered between two neighbors one is next to a golf course that never treats for grubs and the other uses Grubex every year I only treat when they get real bad usually a dry year.
