Setting a moldboard plow (520 international plow)

I have a 520 international plow with 5x18" bottoms. The tractor we use to pull the plow has 20.8x38 tires on the rear. I would really like detailed instructions on how to set a plow such as this because we are having a hard time getting the plow to do a clean job (i.e. very rough plow job and every pass of the field shows as the plow does not nicely fill the dead furrow after the tractor has run through it). Details like setting the depth, draft, point hitch adjustment, etc. would be greatly appreciated.

Are you taking an 18" slice with the front bottom? If not slide the hitch over in the holes provided so you are.

Depth of the front bottom should be the same as the previous rounds rear bottom.

Does the plow have a gauge wheel on the left side?

Yes, it appears to be taking about 18" at the front moldboard and we have set the depth accordingly like you had mentioned.

There is a gauge wheel on the side.

Then it can only be that you are not going deep enough or travel speed is to slow. I have plowed with 16 inch bottoms and 18.4wide tires and it would cover just fine.

Try setting the 3 pt (the front of the plow) lower with the lever. Set the draft heavier so it doesn't lift it so much.

How fast are you traveling?
