Tandem tractors

Does someone have pictures of some of the John Deere tractors that were built into tandems by farmers back in the 50's? Somewhere I've seen pictures of a couple of 80's or 820's or maybe R's. Tks

Check the site of Western Minnesota Steam Thresers Reunion at Rollag, Minn. They have some in their parades every Labor Day weekend. They may have some picture on their website.

Here's a tandem for you!

I was traveling on 6 in north Central Indiana last week when I passed a trailer that had 2 unstyled Deere A or G's in tandem. I am guessing they were at the Noble county fair in Kendalville but am not sure, saw them just west of New Paris. I would have loved to get a closer look.

Pete, that's pretty amazing, but it's not a tandem. Tandem means the tractors are connected front-to-back. Typically they would remove the steering axles from both tractors, and connect them together with an articulated steering mechanism to make a single, articulated four-wheel drive tractor. I know it's been done with JD 5010 and 5020s, and in the UK Fordson Majors have been built into tandems.

In one of my Deere books, maybe the one by Leffingwell or Beemer, there is a pic of two 820 Diesels in tandem with a sound gard cab. Dude is in North Dakota, at the time he used the tandem tractor for mainline work, prolly still does. I'll see if I can find it.
