bale baskets

Anyone have or use them?? Do they work good?? What happens if you have a miss tied bale?? Do they make the bales extra heavy because of the long push to the top of the basket?? I use a kicker and kicker racks now ,but are the bale baskets a better set up??

I don't actually have one, but have been looking for one for a while. As I understand it the bales aren't any more dense than normal, but you do have to turn the tension springs down on your baler to compensate for the tension added by pushing bales up the ramp. Everyone who I know that has had them likes them. The only trouble is finding a used one. New ones cost $3500 last I checked, probably $4000 now. Used ones are hard to come by (in my area at least).

When we made hay we had the kicker and wagons, the baskets were not yet made. Since that time I have seen several and I can not see absoutlay any redeaming value to them. Cant see why any one would want one. Cousin that is a hay byer has 3 of them and it looks like he is making such a big bale that I could not lift one.

i have been using one for ten years works great only have one wagon and sell most of my hay i fill the basket drive to nieghbors and dump wagon ready to go again
if the baler misses sometimes you can retie in chute otherwise run it in the wagon just like throw baler
you might have to lossen your tension a little but can make bales same as thrower

yes they are nice units,I ran three of them for several seasons before going to accumulator setup. They are much better than the kicker setup you have now in my experience with them. I grew up behind the kicker baler units so know what you deal with there.
Much easier to unload than the kicker units are.
You never have a missed bale to go get on the hills or corners.
three items you must do thou with them
1 make a special short hitch pin
2 get the right setback from you bale chamber for trouble free corners etc
3 must releive tension on your baler as the chute will add tension so just let off the bale chamber and you will be fine, need to test run few bale thru the wagon to get weight you want.
used one on classifeid site last i looked ,New York area think thou

P.s let me know if can be more help you will not be the first or last ,you will like them ifyou set them up correctly, I have accumulator for sale now if that would be of any help instead

Well for one thing, you don't need a kicker on your baler, which requires additional HP, it' something else to break, and you don't have to unload the kicker wagon by hand. A bale basket has almost zero maintenance. A guy can bale and unload hay all day without touching a bale until you are ready to stack the hay in the mow.

I absolutely loved mine, but I didn't have the time to do all the hay myself so I gave up baling. I have mine for sale in the photo ads, but VT. is a bit far to haul one, they are a wide load. If I had a bale that missed a tie on it, I'd just keep going and re-baled it when I dumped the load. A few bales get smushed a bit, but no more than a kicker and you can usually straigten them out or leave them for the top row.

My cousin and I each have 2, and wouldn't do small squares without them. If your cousin was making big bales, it was because of how the baler was set, has nothing to do with the basket.

Lot less fuss than a kicker & all those hay racks.

Basket I just leave hooked together (my fields are close to the yard), back up to the barn & dump, way less things to break, less mess, less hp.

Never liked kickers.
