Farmall 504-D Hydraulics

I recently purchased a 504 D farmall. I am quickly realizing I am overwhelmed. The 3 point wont stay in the up position if the tractor is stopped. If you Idle the tractor up the lift will come up and then go down and will keep repeating this process. Can anyone tell me if its the hydraulic pump or is it a lack of hydraulic fluid. I cant find a dip stick anywhere for the Hydraulic system.

Thanks
Bit off more than I want to chew

The hitch leaking down, and the hitch "hunting" are classic signs of the lift cylinder seal rings or packings leaking.

That's where to start. Of course, there may be other problems, as well.

Better get on operator's manual for all the fill points and maintenance items!

There is no dipstick, but if memory serves, the level should be no less than 8 inches below the fill point next to the gearshift lever.

I don't know about your series but there is a factory stock dipstick attached to my hydraulics fill plug. Definitely get the fluid level filled up. Could hurt the pump running really low and letting air into the system.

Thank you all for the replies...Its awesome have some people willing to share there knowledge. Keeps my hair from being pulled out.
