O/T Microwave oven

Anybody ever work on one? I think ours has a loose connection in the control panel. Wiggle the panel just right and it works. Have not did a search yet. Thanks in advance. J.

They sell microwave ovens by the pound at the Goodwill stores. When mine breaks I throw it out the backdoor onto the pile of other broken microwaves and go pick up another one for 5$

Sounds like you got a mighty classy place...

Seems as if our newer microwave ovens last shorter times than did the old ones. Our first was huge, heavy, expensive and lasted about 20 years. No parts available when it died. Our newest, magnetron failed after just three 3 years of light use. Repairs would have been $230.00 parts and labor on a unit that could be replaced with new one for $200.00. Magnetron was under warranty and so I paid $80.00 for repair. Mine was made in Korea, now the same brand is made in PRC- that's what the label says. People's Republic of China is my interpretation of that.

Just take the panel off and check. Unless your one of those people that have no skill for this there"s not much that can go wrong. Just take you time and do it slowly. Right now we have a 15 year old Sanyo microwave. Has never caused any trouble and is very reliable. Not looking foward to the day we have to replace it.

I am pretty sure that is not true. I think the magnetron stores a significant charge. Unless you know how to safely discharge it, you're better of leaving a microwave oven alone.

friend of mine has an Amana radar range from when they first came out in the late 60s early 70's.thing is huge. Still working. bill m.

It's NOT the magnetron you have to worry about. It's the 5KV oil-filled capacitor in the magnetron's power supply that will knock you on your a$$. Can you say "defibrillator"?

I was thinking just the control panel. Not the whole thing. I wasn't aware it was all attached or is it? On second thought don't take it apart if there is a chance of getting hurt.
