Shape of leaves and fact that you say it is a vine , you have a couple of species of Morningglory, a common weed of much of USA.

Go to Va. Tech. weed ID site link below. Then click on letter M, then scroll down to find info and photos of many species of morningglory.

Weldon is on it I think, Both Morning Glories, and hay grow best in the best soil. So finding them there is not too surprising. It has been called many things from bind weed, to _____________ well not fit to hear. I would kill it of with weed be gone, or 2-4T type broad leaf weed killer, it proliferates very easily, and is not good to eat. JimN

In Kansas bindweed (morning glory) is one of 14 weeds declared to be noxious weeds - and all landowners are required to eradicate it as best they can. Counties will share in the cost of eradication becuase it is so undesirable. There are a few species of 'morning glory' that are permissible and grown in gardens and flower beds - but a lot of folks can't tell those from common bindweed. I live in town now and my city-born wife planted morning glory by the back fence and I have been trying to kill it without killing the grass for five years - it is spreading everywhere so I may have to sacrifice the grass.

Yep, everybody's on point, appears to be morningglory, specifically, pitted morninglory, a very common weed here in the South.

You definately don't want that stuff to go to seed either as the seeds can remain viable up to 50 years in the right soil conditions.

Nasty stuff. When daughter-in-law's grandparents sold their house in town, needed to clean up their compost pile, so son brought it to my place and combined it with mine. You guessed it- now I've got morning glory and another weed I don't recognize. Thanks loads, kid. . .
