Dreaming...

We were sitting around having a cold beer kicking yet another tractor we needed to fix on our never ending list of chores... and the question was asked... "If you could have any tractor you wanted money and needs be damned, what would it be and why?" I thought it was a fine question to have on here... Mine would be a 720 JD diesel... ex wives are hard on things like that... anyways soap box is open

Since I don't farm and only need it for an acre of ground I would like to have a JD 318 because I hear they are probably the least distructable, and Have the working capasity of a larger machine.
Of corse I would need some toys [Implements] for it also.
Also with the power steering and hydraulic ports would be very nice for lots of applications.

Two words Big Bud

They don't have the working capacity of a larger machine. They're good, but not that good.

I finally did get my dream when I got my 730 diesel. Of course, you're nuts if you think they have any problems that can be fixed with the change in your pocket. Very easy to go over 10 grand in one of these.

So I spelled capacity wrong!!

I just want something that will take the abuse my old Bolens has without worring it might break.
I have used it for pulling some pretty stout logs and 4" stumps.

Isn't a JD318 a garden tractor? Not sure what tractor I'd want but it would be fun to have a Letourneau L2350 wheel loader to play with. It would put the Big Bud to shame with its 53 yard standard bucket and joy stick steering. Dave

I was thinking the post was about what tractor you would have if money was no object. I thought it odd that you'd only want a garden tractor, when a larger AG tractor could do more work. Dave

It would have to be a 1970's Duetz tractor for me. If I am going to dream, I am going to dream expensive and different. Maybe I need to dream that I have my Gold Ford 871 running.

I've always loved the bigger tractors. I think either a John Deere 8000 series or an MX Magnum. The articulators are cool, but too large for the roads in my area. Probably a brand new John Deere 8430 would be my top choice because they are the most fuel efficient.

If I won the lottery I would get a Ford Jubilee to hook on the hay wagon and drive my grandkids around the farm.

I'd love to have a steam powered tractor in good working condition, I wouldn't worry about the paint just the boiler. That's the important part.

My dream would be a big Case steamer or an Oil Pull or a great big salvage yard like you guys got in the midwest to play with. Hoss

I don't know what I would choose, but I'd have to say it wouldn't be a 720 John Deere. I've run one of those a good bit, and they are not the cat's meow.

Ya know, I usually don't answer questions like this cause just don't have the $$$, so... But, yep an old Case streamer, a Rumley, Advanced or the likes would be something.

Thanks for the reminder. Brought a smile to my face and I sincerely appreciate it.

Mark

If I could have any tractor that I wanted, I would probably end up with a Farmall super m diesel with the ta (SMDTA) or a Farmall 706 with the German diesel engine and 3 point. I remember the SMDTA from childhood and I loved our old 706.

Just to monkey with some people's heads, others will catch my joke........ I would really, really like to get my hands on a farmall Super HTA.....I know they exist......I've seen pictures on this site!!!! HA HA HA HA HA HA
