silo unloaders

Nice rainy day today!
Was wondering which top unloaders were easier to work on. Have one of ours (starline) which will need replacing soon and not sure which way to go. Jamesway was one suggestion. We really liked the starlines but no new ones made now...

I've had Clay, Jamesway, and Hanson. First two worked fair if you took enough extra parts off of them, but clumsy and time-consuming getting them ready to raise up for refilling. Hanson was far better in every way. Simple, easy to repair. Ring drive was even better then the surface drive. Most dependable machine on the whole farm.

1st one we had was a VanDale and was kinda a POS.

We replaced it with a Patz.An engineering masterpiece in my opinion.

I've spent an afternoon replacing bearings on a Valmetal that had unloaded a 70' silo one time.
I do not like them at all. Seemed rather cheaply made and their little ring drive system was not as hardy as a Jamesway IMO.
We put Jamesways in the 2 silos we built and were never disappointed.

We"ve got two Hansons, a ring drive and a wheel drive. It doesn"t take much to stop the ring drive. Both work well.
