fixing up a little pavement roller for a buddy, has an 8hp briggs motor. went to check the points and condenser out.....there is none. nothing behind the flywheel. doesnt even have the hole for the plunger to lift the points open. just has the mag mounted above the flywheel. has real good spark too. never seen anything like this. its an older motor too. no electronic ignition either. anybody ever seen one like this??? 8 hp horizontal shaft, recoil start.

where is the electronic unit at? all i can find is the mag above the flywheel, has one wire going to the kill switch , nothing else.

had a very old (1960"s) 3hp b/s on a Roto-ette with same setup, must have sparked when it felt like it was a good time to spark

ran OK

That may be the Magnetron armature requires no points. Hal

in the plastic of the new armature there is electronics that sense maximum primary saturation, and switch the circuit open (just as points would do. Less muss and fuss to get spark. Variabiliy of timing is very small. JimN

Briggs did away with points over 20 years ago. You could buy a kit also to convert an old points engine to an electronic module using your old coil. with the electronics you did not have to worry so much about a slight shear on the flywheel key. In fact on engines we used on racing karts we did not run a flywheel key at all.
