Sugar Beet loading 2008

Had about 20 acres of beets off before we got all this rain and crappy weather. They got them loaded and hauled off to Croswell, MI. Here is a pic from the cab of the machine...

Couldn't see the picture on my computer, but from where I'm sitting now, I can see the Pioneer Sugar tower. Where are you located farmallman?

I am located in Wyoming, ON, Canada, Lambton County. My dad grows beets and the get shipped over the border. Now that the dollar is down again it is awesome. I once went with a haul to Croswell. Beautiful.

Drove through there the first time this summer after working in Chatham/Dresden area for a week. We drove up the Bruce penisula after visiting the oil museum.

You drove up the Bruce Peninsula? Should have let me know, you can see my place from Hwy #21. Even had some Steelback brew while watching my tom turkey chase the dog for entertainment.. Did take the ferry across to the Island and up Hwy#6 ?

Hey, at least it's not that good ole Canadian garbage ;) Sorry had to make that comment. It's a sore subject in these parts. I'm a high school teacher here. I'm sure you passed the school on your way. It's just east of the plant. They were harvesting just by my house yesterday afternoon, so I stopped to watch for a bit. It's nice and muddy, so they pulled the semi around the field with a big Deere. Something to see.

Where we are we load the semi on the road. the MAUS is in the field and the semi is parked on the road... its beautiful at night with all the lights

The only person I knew I was driving near was Mike in Exeter based on seeing signs for Exeter!. It was sort of a point the car and go trip. We did end up taking the ferry to Manatoulin and beyond.

Quite an eye opener for me, all the huge flat fields in the south and the corn further north. I'm from New Brunswick and our farming has died back alot since WW2. The land I farm is only 1/3 cleared now but was 100% cleared in about 1960.

What stench driving through those oil areas! Reading about how they used to dump the worthless gasoline and naptha in the creek and keep the tar and lampoil made you want to cry with gas what it was!

How big is the bin on the harvester? The ones they use here have tiny storage bins on them. They're full after about 50 ft.

the harvester has about a 18 ton bin on it. We hope to be digging tomorrow so hopefully ill be able to get some more pics!

I prefer your part of Ontario and south. You get spring 2 weeks sooner and fall two weeks later than us.
I was through that general area south to Windsor down county #6 from a few weeks ago.
