I have been haveing some problems with a Ford major that does not want to crank over the best. I have replaced all battery cabels and had the starter rebuilt and still does not want to crank over strong. I have a new 935 anp battery. Do you have any ideas.

Hi Bill had the same trouble with my 1956 Diesel Major. Noticed the terminals on the starting solinoid were getting hot when i pressed the starter lever. Changed the solinoid and no more problems, good luck. MJ

I would check the electrolyte in each battery cell and compare the readings. Should read 1.260
or better. My battery is 6 years old will soon be 7 and it reads. 1.270-1.280. You need to make sure all those cable ends are shiny and tight
including the area where its grounded. I put a new solenoid on my tractor. Cost about $5.00 last year. Hal

What is the voltage measured across the starting motor while cranking?
Are there any hydraulic loads trying to raise like a 3 point hitch while cranking?
Make any difference if trying to start with the clutch pedal is fully depressed?
