Front tires on backhoe

Has anyone used regular 16 inch truck tires on the front of a backhoe? I have seen them on front of tractors but, can they handle the weight of a backhoe with the bucket loaded ? Thanks in advance ! Larry

One of the farmers local to me uses the tires on his truck 'til he decides he wants to replace them (every year or two, typically)...the tires off the truck go smuck onto the front rims of the loader tractor....a 235 or 245, I believe. They use it for snow removal, loading ~1000lb bales onto the trailers, etc. Probably not as heavy-duty a use as a backhoe would get, but I'd imagine you'd be fine with a pair of 10-ply. Never hurts to try.

A tire dealer near me sells used tires from a fleet of trucks he maintains for a local company and that is what I have on my backhoe. They are 8 ply I believe and are holding up well. I paid $25 for the tire, tube and mounting. He put 80 PSI in them and no problems so far.

I've got them on my 3500 Ford backhoe, and have never had any trouble. I move dirt with the bucket, and use a bale spear to load 700 round bales a year when I'm hauling them in for the winter.

Thanks guys, I have a few good 16 inchers and cant afford any 10.00x16s at the moment.. Jim, the escort isnt running yet, Ill have it running sometime today(friday)...

I had 16 inch implement floaters on my old Case 680 CK.Blew one out.......but it lasted about 16 years.Keep the pressure high in them and I'd say they're fine.
